Shanna Irwin-Coury

Shanna Irwin-Coury began her teaching career at the University of North Texas, where she earned her M.A. in Mathematics. She has since taught and tutored in a variety of classrooms, including Rockwall-Heath High School, Poetry Community Christian School and Collin College. She would have dreamed of a school like Academy from the beginning, if she’d ever imagined it could exist, and has called it “dream school” since she first heard it described.  In addition to a deep and abiding love for mathematics, she has a sincere passion for teaching, for learners, and for the vision of this amazing place, where “When am I ever going to use this?” is a question never asked.
Shanna grew up in Gun Barrel City (yes, that’s a place), spent most of her adult life in Denton, then eventually settled in a small town called Poetry (also a place) with her talented husband and brilliant son, along with their three dogs, two cats, and five chickens. On the side, she is an insect photographer, a devoted lifelong Whovian, and longtime Altmer in the world of The Elder Scrolls.
