Who should apply?

Current 8th grade learners who enjoy STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math), making connections across content areas, and are project-oriented.  Interested learners should also embody the attributes outlined in the Learner Profile.

Application and Selection Process

  1. Submission of online application

Applications will be available on November 2nd, 2016  and must be completed and submitted by 5:00 PM on Friday, December 16th, 2016. You will receive a confirmation screen (or email) after application submission. Please print and keep the confirmation for your records. You can also save a pdf file of your completed application.

  1. Mandatory attendance at an information meeting

We will hold three  informational meetings for prospective learners and parents. Attendance to ONE of these meetings is mandatory  These information nights are scheduled for the following dates:

Tuesday, November 15th, 2016

Tuesday, November  29th, 2016

All meetings will begin at 7:00 PM, and will be held at Academy High School.

3.  Prospective  Student/Parent School Tours

Tours of the school will be offered  throughout the month of November on the dates listed below.  Tours will take place at 8:30 AM and 4:45 PM. To participate and register for a tour , please follow  this link (registration for a given tour will end three calendar days prior to each tour date.  You must bring a valid driver’s license to your tour in order to be issued a visitor’s badge for the building.

4. Middle School Visits

Academy staff will be visiting with all Plano ISD 8th graders at their middle school campuses throughout the month of  November to give them a broader perspective on the choices available to them at Academy High School.



Selection Process and Important Dates

Students who desire to attend Plano ISD Academy High School and live within the Plano ISD boundaries will be provided an opportunity to complete an application. If there are more students than available spaces, students will be chosen for admission via lottery.  There will be a balance of male and female students represented at the school.  Student selection will be based on a proportionate representation across all middle schools in Plano ISD.

Applicants will be notified of the results of the admission process by January 6th, 2017 after 3:30 PM.  Requests for early decisions cannot be honored.

When applicants have been informed that they have been offered admission to the Academy, they will be required to submit an online Academy Commitment Letter to secure their admission by January 13, 2017.
